Sour Patch Kids
I recently remembered free will exists so last Saturday while waiting for my bus to come (15 min btw, it was torture) I had the urge to go into the supermarket to kill time to just buy something. Granted, I know I should be saving money, given my heavy expenditure on gifts in January, but I just felt the urge to commit the act of spending money.
I then stumbled across Sour Patch Kids in the confectionery aisle and world pause. It made me think about when was last time I had these, or more specifically, when was the last time I bought packet candy for fun. I ended up buying it and I've been savouring it since. It's currently Tuesday and I've been eating it slowly over the last few days. I think I'm going to finish it when I finish writing this but eating it right now made me have the urge to write here about it.
I stopped snacking in college. Or rather, I stopped snacking consistently because ever since college started, I would toggle violently between being a #healthy person and only eating breakfast, (maybe) lunch and dinner, or just snacking non stop and filling up on junk food alongside the full 2-3 meals a day. My current diet also heavily relies on a lot of drinks, specifically sweet drinks (like bubble tea, coffee, lots of water, teh o pengs, etc.). But sweets? I haven't bought or eaten those in a couple years I think.
I used to buy candy and/or strawberry milk all the time at the 7-eleven below my high school. Favourite rotations included sour patch kids, mentos, reese's peanut butter cups or those grape pastilles. I remember being able to finish whole packets of Sour Patch Kids before 12pm and drinking a packet of strawberry milk in <10 min after school.
Eating the sour patch kids felt somewhat nostalgic. But I don't think it has triggered me to want to continue buying packet candy for some reason. Maybe this is something about growing up and having your taste buds change, even though I know I still love sweet things and spending unnecessary money on food and sweet treats I don't need. Besides, nowadays, all my money either goes to Rock 'em Bones or my $5.70 iced caramel macchiatos with extra caramel.
